Who swallowed this wee morsel,
This minuscule tidbit?
Whose hatch, whose trap, whose pie-hole
was it crammed into?
Whose slavering maw
closed down around it?
Whose greasy gullet
did it slide down?
I wish I knew
so I could hunt the glutton down,
slice open their belly
and reach into their steaming entrails
to rescue it before it gets digested
and evacuated: this crumb, this scrap
this tiny speck
I can't bear to see it devoured
It's all I have left
